Job summary

Project Genesis Inc in Killingly, CT is seeking a Special Education Mentor / Transition Teacher to work one-on-one with students as they transition from high school into adulthood, teaching life and independent living skills.

You'll deliver individualized instruction in community settings, support educational goals, and travel locally up to 30 miles. The role offers Monday-Friday school-day hours and a competitive hourly wage of $19.00-$22.00.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College coursework or a degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, or related field is preferred.
• At least one year of experience in education, special education, behavioral health, or human services is required.
• Knowledge of IDEA and transition services is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (minimum three years).
• Ability to obtain Connecticut Public Passenger Endorsement (A) after hire (company reimbursement).
• Ability to pass required pre-employment and random 10-panel drug screening.
• Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized instruction in community-based settings.
• Teach life skills including communication, problem-solving, budgeting, workplace readiness, and independent living.
• Support students as they work toward educational, employment, and personal goals.
• Maintain student progress notes and IEP portfolios.
• Implement positive behavior supports and evidence-based teaching strategies.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, schools, and community partners.
• Travel locally (within approximately 30 miles) to provide services where students learn and thrive.
