ICL is seeking a Life Skills Coordinator for the Specialized Children's Community Residence (CCR) for Transition-Age Youth (TAY), ages 16–21, with mental health and child welfare involvement. You will develop and deliver life skills programming to foster independence and community integration, working within a multidisciplinary team to provide individualized coaching and community-based instruction.

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. (work eligibility).
• Onsite role at Linden Blvd, Brooklyn with local travel.

Responsibilities

• Assess residents' daily living and independent living skills using observations.
• Develop individualized skills-training plans aligned with treatment goals.
• Teach activities of daily living: hygiene, meal prep, budgeting, time management, transportation.
• Provide hands-on coaching in community settings (grocery stores, banks, healthcare facilities, schools).
• Implement TIP principles to support goal setting and independence.
• Deliver financial literacy and money management education.
• Support vocational exploration and employment opportunities.
• Collaborate with case managers, social workers, and clinical staff.
• Document progress and outcomes per regulatory requirements.
• Participate in discharge planning and transition to independent living.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Social Work, Human Services, Education, or a related field.
• Experience : Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with adolescents or young adults with behavioral health challenges. Demonstrated experience teaching life skills, financial literacy, independent living skills, or community-based instruction.
• Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally in the community, as required. Preferred certifications include Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) or Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP).
• Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Work Location Requirement: Onsite - Linden Blvd, Brooklyn ; frequent community-based activities and local travel required.

About the Role

The Life Skills Coordinator plays a critical role within the Specialized Children's Community Residence (CCR) for Transition-Age Youth (TAY), ages 16 to 21, who have mental health diagnoses and child welfare involvement. This position is responsible for developing and delivering life skills programming that prepares youth for successful adulthood, greater independence, and community integration. Working as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, the Life Skills Coordinator provides individualized coaching, community-based instruction, and skills development focused on daily living, financial literacy, education, employment readiness, and self-advocacy.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assess residents' daily living, adaptive, and independent living skills using observation and standardized assessment tools.
• Develop and implement individualized skills-training plans aligned with person-centered treatment and service goals.
• Teach activities of daily living including personal hygiene, meal planning, cooking, laundry, household management, budgeting, banking, time management, and use of public transportation.
• Provide hands-on coaching and supervision in community settings such as grocery stores, banks, healthcare facilities, schools, workplaces, and community organizations.
• Implement Transition to Independence Process (TIP) principles to support goal setting, future planning, and increasing independence.
• Deliver financial literacy and money management education using approved curricula.
• Support residents with vocational exploration, job readiness, educational achievement, workforce training, and employment opportunities.
• Promote self-advocacy, decision-making, assertiveness, and youth-driven participation in services.
• Facilitate community engagement through recreational, volunteer, social, and citizenship activities.
• Collaborate with Case Managers, Social Workers, Benefits Specialists, Peer Advocates, and clinical staff to reinforce skill development across settings.
• Document services, resident progress, barriers, and outcomes in accordance with program and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in discharge planning and assist residents in preparing for less restrictive and more independent living environments.
• Coordinate skill-building activities with treatment team members to ensure consistency with service plans.
• Partner with Peer Advocates to enhance youth engagement, motivation, and voice.
• Communicate regularly with the Program Director regarding resident progress, challenges, and program needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with transition-age youth involved in child welfare, mental health, or housing systems.
• Familiarity with evidence-based practices such as the TIP Model and YAWORC.
• Certification as a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) or Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP).
• Bilingual skills reflective of the population served.
