Job summary

Willbern Elementary in Houston, Texas is seeking an Aide for Life Skills to support the instructional program. The role involves assisting teachers, preparing materials, supervising students, and helping with daily classroom operations. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and pass CFISD proficiency requirements.

The position is full-time for 187 days, with stipends for Adaptive Behavior, Life Skills, and PPCD aides. Immediate start with an application deadline of Oct 2, 2026.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Flexible and able to adjust daily routine.
• Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.
• Physically able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds or more.
• Competency on CFISD proficiency test (score of 70 or above on both parts).

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment, books, and supplies.
• Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
• Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
• Help manage behavior of students, including intervening in crisis situations.
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s needs.
• Work with individuals or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises.
• Help supervise students during the school day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
• May drive bus for training activities.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development and meetings.
• Maintain reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by teacher or principal.
