Job summary

Penn State University seeks a Research Technologist to design and execute laboratory projects in life sciences, focusing on vascular biology, neuroscience, and related fields. Responsible for data collection, protocol development, and staff training in a dynamic research environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; no prior relevant work experience required; NIH-funded studies in vascular biology and inflammation.
  • Prior biology/biomedical lab experience preferred; familiarity with animal procedures and data management is advantageous.
  • Ability to train users, manage data, and ensure quality and timeliness of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research projects related to life science areas; ensure protocol adherence and evaluate results.
  • Perform assays, material tests, specimen evaluation, and cultures.
  • Develop data collection procedures; record, correlate, and analyze data; prepare summaries.
  • Design research methods; identify problems; recommend technical approaches and solutions.
  • Advise on data collection, management, and visualization software.
  • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques; explain capabilities and outcomes.
  • Develop project protocols; manage feasibility, quality, cost, and timeliness of projects.
  • Author papers, proposals, and reports to disseminate findings.
  • May supervise staff, including hiring and performance management.
