Job summary

Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD seeks a Life Safety (Wall) Maintenance Mechanic I to inspect, repair, install and maintain fire-rated interior walls in accordance with Compartmentation guidelines. Work spans shop and field environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, and fumes.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Formal training in an approved Life Safety program at a vocational/technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience (full-time equivalent in an approved program may count toward the 5-year requirement).
  • Knowledge of firestop systems, metal stud framing, drywall, caulking, patching, and related techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, install, modify and maintain fire-rated interior walls.
  • Work in shop and on interior building walls following Compartmentation guidelines.
  • Work in confined spaces and in awkward positions; climb to heights up to 30 feet using ladders or lifts.
  • Operate under general supervision with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise, and fumes.

Job description

The Life Safety (Wall) Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installation, modification and maintaining fire-rated and smoke-resistant interior walls. Work is performed on interior building walls in accordance with Compartmentation guidelines and under general supervision using the tools and techniques of life safety technology. The incumbent works in shop and mechanical environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes. Work may be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions. Gets into/works within confined spaces and in awkward positions. Works at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment. Work requires ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.

Hours: Full time (40 hours), Day Shift, Weekdays

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of formal training in an approved Life Safety program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
  • 5 years related work experience. The full-time equivalent spent in an approved program may count toward the 5-year work experience requirement.
  • Knowledge of approved firestop systems, metal stud framing, drywall, caulking, patching, taping and caulking techniques, procedures and materials.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes and fire codes.
