Job summary

Tooele County Sheriff's Office seeks a Lieutenant to lead operations, supervise personnel, and coordinate patrol, investigations, jail, court services, and transportation. The role reports to the Sheriff and supports strategic goals and public safety across Tooele County.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must maintain Utah POST certification.
• Experience as sworn law enforcement officer at rank Sergeant or above.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws, Utah statutes, and local ordinances.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership and direction to Sheriff's Office personnel.
• Prepares and oversees employee work schedules and staffing.
• Assists with recruitment, selection, and hiring of personnel.
• Conducts performance evaluations and reviews.
• Implements corrective or disciplinary actions per policy and law.
• Monitors records for accuracy and compliance.
• Oversees quality assurance and operational improvements.
• Analyses workload and staffing to optimize scheduling.
• Supports policy development and enforcement.
• Responds to significant incidents and provides leadership as needed.
