Responsibilities

Summary

This position supervises the security and control activities and staff in the Intake Department, which provides for maximum facility coordination of detainee intake and release. Responsible for the coordination of work assignments for all Intake staff assigned to the unit.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and schedules work of Intake and Release Officers assigned to the unit; ensuring facility coordination in the receiving and discharge of detainees, in addition to the preparing required records and reports.
  • Responds to major unusual occurrences. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.
  • Directs the work of other employees. This includes the selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training and development, promoting, and any disciplinary action, including termination.
  • Makes assignments, reviews post orders and ensures that all procedures, including emergency procedures, are in place and staff trained in proper implementation.
  • Reviews staff effectiveness and conducts frequent physical inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Gives primary guidance on situational problems; making referrals for more complex problems.
  • Prepares records and reports as assigned by management. Maintains daily logs as required.
  • Responsible for attaining facility goals/objectives and ensuring compliance with all rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures for intake/discharge operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED certificate. Must meet any state specific education or certificate requirements. Completion of approved Correctional Officer training program resulting in a certificate of satisfactory completion. Must obtain and maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and firearms.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • One (1) year full time wage earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations that impact the effective operations of a facility.Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and other communication and the ability to interpret and apply appropriate action based on them.
  • Ability to coordinate staffing requirements for security supervisors and officers.
  • Ability to make and implement decisions without assistance.
  • Ability to give instructions in a manner that provides teamwork and a cooperative spirit.
  • Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex instructions.
  • Ability to work in varying climatic conditions.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and software related to report writing, employee scheduling and information submission to the facility's computer system.
  • Ability to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling twenty-four (24) hour period.
