Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor to plan, coordinate and direct security staff in a medium‑security facility. You will oversee custody and control of inmates and safeguard all buildings and property.

Responsibilities include routine unit checks, ensuring adherence to OSHA standards, counts accuracy, and dispute resolution among inmates and staff. Assignment to the Yard may occur as needed. Eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training is required on hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience; a related bachelor's may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
• Supervisory experience in correctional, security, military, or police work is required or preferred.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and three (3) years’ experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• A degree in criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
