Job summary

Management & Training Corporation in Chaparral, NM seeks a Lieutenant to supervise assigned sergeants and maintain custody and discipline of detainees in line with MTC directives.

Essential duties include serving as shift supervisor, training staff, overseeing searches, escorting detainees, and responding to emergencies. Requires a high school diploma and 3 years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience, plus a valid NM or TX driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience, with supervisory exposure.
• Valid driver's license in NM or TX with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Serve as shift supervisor.
• Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate staff and detainees; manage work schedules; help set procedures.
• Oversee searches for contraband and ensure custody and security of detainees.
• Transfer and transport detainees; restrain as needed.
• Respond to emergencies; provide first aid and apply appropriate use of force when required.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 6a-6p or 6p-6a - shift assignment rotates every 6 months

What you'll do : The Lieutenant supervises assigned sergeants and is responsible for the custody and discipline of detainees in the facility in compliance with MTC and customer directives.
Essential Functions:

1. Serve as shift supervisor.


2. Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assigned employees and detainees; schedule employees' and detainees' work and off-duty time; assist in formulating security and work procedures.


3. Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security. Supervise and provide custody and security of detainees including observation of detainees and detainees assigned to work duty, which includes long periods of sitting and standing.


4. Perform specific security functions including \"pat\" and \"strip\" searches', by squatting and bending to perform such functions.


5. Transfer and transport detainees by walking or riding in vehicles; restrain and secure assaultive detainees, as needed.


6. Respond to emergencies to search for detainees, administer first aid at the emergency site, carry an injured or unconscious offender, and perform use of force procedures, including the use of chemical agents to control detainees.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent


• Three (3) years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory capacity required.


• Valid driver's license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
