Job summary

Aeva is seeking a Verification and Validation Engineer to lead the rigorous testing of LiDAR products. You will design and deploy V&V hardware and software test solutions, automate data acquisition, and analyze large datasets to uncover performance trends and failures.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on Verification and Validation, Test Engineering, or QA for complex hardware/software systems.
• Experience with electromechanical or optical systems (Lidar or similar) is a strong plus.
• Strong Python skills for test scripting, automation, and data analysis.
• Experience with data analysis tools and handling large datasets (Pandas, NumPy, MATLAB).
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and test software architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy V&V hardware and software test solutions for Lidar sensor characterization and validation.
• Contribute to implementation and maintenance of the test software architecture.
• Develop scripts and programs for test automation, data acquisition, and post-processing.
• Create test scenes with objects at multiple ranges to characterize Lidar in controlled environments.
• Execute detailed test plans and test cases on Lidar systems.
• Analyze large datasets to identify performance trends and root causes of failures.
• Generate accurate V&V reports and documentation for compliance and internal review.
• Collaborate with R&D, Hardware, and Software teams to review requirements and drive issue resolution.
• Help define and refine V&V strategy and best practices.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Verification and Validation (V&V) Engineer to join our team, focusing on the rigorous testing and quality assurance of our cutting‑edge LiDAR products. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong programming skills, a passion for data analysis, and experience in building robust test solutions for complex systems.

What you’ll be doing:

• Design, develop, and deploy V&V hardware and software test solutions, systems, and automated test fixtures necessary for comprehensive Lidar sensor characterisation and validation
• Contribute significantly to the implementation and maintenance of the test software architecture using industry best practices
• Utilize strong Python skills to develop scripts and programmes for test automation, data acquisition from sensors, and post-processing of results
• Design and develop scenes containing objects placed at several range locations to characterise Lidar systems is a controlled environment
• Execute detailed test plans, protocols, and test cases (functional, performance, reliability, environmental, etc.) on Lidar systems
• Manage, process, and analyze large datasets generated from testing activities to identify performance trends, system anomalies, and root causes of failures
• Generate accurate and timely V&V reports, including detailed test results, summaries, and documentation required for compliance and internal review
• Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams (R&D, Hardware, Software) to review requirements, ensure testability, and drive timely issue resolution
• Participate in defining and refining the overall V&V strategy and best practices under the guidance of the V&V Manager

What you’ll have:

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
• Minimum of 3+ years of hands‑on experience in Verification and Validation, Test Engineering, or Quality Assurance for complex hardware/software systems
• Experience working with electromechanical or optical systems (experience with Lidar or similar sensor technology is a strong plus)
• Strong proficiency in Python for test scripting, automation, and data analysis
• Proven experience contributing to or implementing test software architecture and frameworks
• Experience with data analysis techniques and tools for handling large datasets (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, MATLAB)
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git)
• Knowledge of measurement instruments and data acquisition hardware
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability in report generation
• Highly analytical, methodical approach to problem‑solving, and meticulous attention to detail

Nice to Have

• System‑level understanding of Lidar systems, including optics, mechanics, signal processing, and embedded software
• Experience with Lidar perception concepts (e.g., point cloud processing, object detection) or other automotive sensor modalities (camera, radar)
• Familiarity with industry standards for safety‑critical systems, such as automotive safety (e.g., ISO 26262)

Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions.
