LIDAR Technician/GIS Analyst II- Houston, TX

Altamira-US, LLC. is adding a LIDAR Scanning Technician/GIS Analyst II to complement our existing capabilities involving LIDAR scanning, data processing, and point cloud management to enhance the delivery of LIDAR data to incorporate 3D laser scans into GIS and engineering design elements.

The ideal candidate will conduct on-site scanning operations utilizing Trimble X7 LIDAR scanner across a spectrum of industries. This role involves performing 3D laser scanning, precision point data collection to be used in conjunction with GPS data for geo-referencing, as part of the processing of scan data use into design models when required. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in LIDAR field data collection methodologies, exceptional attention to detail, understanding of GPS data to be used in reference to precision points for geo-referencing and the ability to coordinate scan data with GPS data effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

Functions

Under the general direction of the Digital Solutions Director or his/her designate, the duties and responsibilities of the Laser Scanning Technician/GIS Analyst II include, but are not limited to, the following:

LIDAR:

  • Conduct on-site 3D laser scanning operations utilizing Faro and Trimble scanners requiring 30% travel.
  • Perform post-processing of scan data to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Integrate scan data into design models using industry-standard software.
  • Coordinate scan data with survey data to ensure alignment and accuracy.
  • Maintain and update scanning equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and best practices during scanning activities.

GIS:

  • Have significant demonstrated experience with the ESRI suite of software, including:

ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, Spatial Analyst, Data Interoperability, Network Analyst, Image Analyst, Location Referencing System (LRS) and ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing (APR)

  • Web: ArcGIS Online, Field Map Designer Smart Forms Development, Operational Dashboards
  • Strong data management skills including creating, editing, and converting GIS data.
  • Strong cartographic and visual design standards to make our products look great for both print and web-based solutions.
  • Strong communication, time management, and attention to detail to effectively support project teams and clients.
  • Experience setting up field teams for mobile data collection using Field Maps and GPS equipment.
  • Experience creating, publishing, and managing map services.
  • Experience with pipeline data management and reconciliation is a must.
  • Experience with reading, reviewing and implementation of Pipeline Survey data is a must.
  • Experience with Python and ModelBuilder a plus.
Requirements
  • B.S or M.S./M.A. Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, or directly related discipline with 3-5 years of professional experience, including 2 years of Pipeline experience.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant LIDAR experience with a bachelor’s degree, or five years of relevant experience with LIDAR field data collection.
  • Proficiency in operating Trimble X7 scanner, with a strong understanding of their capabilities and limitations.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard software for post-processing and integrating scan data (e.g., Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Revit).
  • Solid understanding of LIDAR data collection methodologies and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in scanning and data processing.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate and interact with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and clients.
  • Ability to travel throughout the U.S.A. (Anticipated travel not to exceed 35%).
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
