Responsibilities
  1. This is a professional position specializing in counseling, casework, and administrative activities in Child Care Licensing, responsible for inspecting and licensing Family Day Care Homes, Large Family Child Care Homes, and Child Care Facilities within established time frames.
  2. Conduct inspections for child care homes and facilities to monitor compliance with Florida Statutes and Administrative Code licensing standards. Maintain a tracking system to ensure inspection timeframes are met and the correct number of inspections are completed annually.
  3. Process initial and renewal applications, including background screening clearances and training as required by statute. Determine eligibility and make recommendations for licensure to supervisor/regional program manager.
  4. Investigate complaints on licensed providers and illegal child care operations. Prepare reports and initiate administrative actions as required by statute and/or administrative code.
  5. Input and update provider database, CARES2, regularly. Archive inspections timely and monitor data accuracy.
  6. Develop professionally by acquiring a proficient working knowledge of applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and community resources related to child care regulation.
  7. Provide technical assistance and support to child care providers to promote compliance with licensing standards and ensure corrective actions are met.
  8. Attain high proficiency in utilizing the program's hardware, software, system applications, and web pages.
  9. Manage the progressive discipline and administrative action processes, including providing timely notifications, maintaining current information in the system, and closing out each action accurately and promptly.
  10. Respond to inquiries via telephone, email, and walk-ins from the public, parents, other agencies, and providers. Provide accurate information and consult with stakeholders regarding child care regulation.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor and respond positively to special assignments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of child protection and family support theories and practices, professional ethics, family-centered interviewing, and counseling techniques. Skills in child development considerations, employing family-centered practices, organizing community resources, recognizing abuse indicators, conducting risk and safety assessments, and developing plans with children and families. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate work, actively listen, communicate effectively, maintain case files, establish effective relationships, use computer systems, review compliance, and track data for federal funding maximization.

Licensure and Other Requirements
  • Must maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and have daily access to a personal vehicle.
  • Must pass fingerprint and background screening.
  • Requires travel and mandatory three weeks of pre-service training.
Working Hours

Daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a total of 40 hours per week. Variations such as split shifts or rotations are to be explained if applicable.
