Job description

The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development's Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing is recruiting for a Licensing Examiner 2 position.

The primary duty station is located in Anchorage. Teleworking opportunities are potentially available for these positions following an initial training period.

The Licensing Examiner 2 position performs a wide variety of administrative assignments necessary to ensure qualified individuals are issued professional licenses for one or more of the division's professional licensing programs, including at least one of the division's 21 programs regulated by a professional licensing board. This position's duties include managing applicant files in a variety of formats, utilizing the in-house professional licensing database effectively, communicating with licensees verbally and in writing, ensuring supplemental documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with licensing standards, and assisting the board's lead staff member in preparation for certain board-related tasks as needed. Licensing examiners are often the primary point of contact for the public and serve as a liaison between the division and applicants.

The mission of the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing is to ensure that competent, professional and regulated commercial services are available to Alaska consumers.

Our work is guided and informed by our beliefs and commitments to:
  • Respect: We respect people, value diversity, and are committed to equality.

  • Participation: We value and recognize the contributions of our staff.

  • Quality: We strive for excellence through focus and attention to detail.

  • Openness: We are committed to a culture of teamwork and a willingness to think outside of the box.

Together, these principles shape how we serve the public and support one another every day.

The benefits of joining our team:

There is tremendous satisfaction in being part of a team that directly contributes to Alaska's economic well-being while supporting public safety by ensuring that professionals meet licensure requirements established by law. The division offers a dynamic, supportive, and collaborative work environment where employees can make a meaningful impact.

In this role, you will build a strong foundation in professional licensing statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures, while gaining valuable experience that can lead to advancement opportunities within the division. You will also strengthen your customer service, communication, attention-to-detail, problem-solving, and computer skills, all of which support a wide range of career paths.

The division licenses more than 125 professions through 45 licensing programs, ranging from Acupuncturists to Veterinarians. This position provides an exciting opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

While the division oversees a large number of professions and programs, this position will typically be assigned to one or two licensing programs, with assignments subject to change based on operational and staffing needs.
