Job Overview
A law firm seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Licensing Associate to join its Washington, DC office. This role focuses on regulatory compliance, financial services licensing, and mortgage lending operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in federal and state compliance laws related to financial services, mortgage lending, servicing, consumer finance, motor vehicles, or money transmission. Candidates should be capable of direct interaction with clients and regulatory agencies, conducting legal research, and managing licensing applications. Strong analytical and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects, are essential.

Duties

  1. Assist clients with financial services licensing matters across all U.S. jurisdictions.
  2. Manage and oversee the licensing process, including applications, ownership changes, and compliance evaluations.
  3. Utilize the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) to complete and supervise licensing applications.
  4. Conduct legal research on mortgage lending, servicing regulations, and financial compliance laws.
  5. Prepare legal memoranda, correspondence, and compliance documentation.
  6. Collaborate with clients and regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to licensing requirements.
  7. Provide strategic guidance on licensing obligations and compliance risks.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in licensing, mortgage, or financial services compliance (preferred but not required).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance frameworks within the financial services sector.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a team-oriented approach.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active Bar License in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Skills

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and regulatory databases.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret complex financial regulations and licensing requirements.
