Schedule: 7a-7p or 7p-7a

Pay range: $23-26/hr, plus a $3.00 per hour shift differential for nights and a $2.00 per hour shift differential for weekends.

Position Overview

A Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of inmate care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of the RN(s), directs and guides inmate teaching and activities that are appropriate to his/her education and competencies.

Essential Job Duties

1. Assist in the assessment of inmates' physical, psychological, and social needs in the Health Care Unit and housing units under RN supervision.
2. Participate in planning and implementing individual treatment programs, utilizing diagnostic tests, resources, and consulting with RNs and staff.
3. Administer medications, including IV therapy if certified, and other approved routes.
4. Support provider evaluations, medical procedures, and minor surgical procedures, documenting with SOAP notes.
5. Obtain specimens and perform EKGs using proper techniques.
6. Maintain records of controlled substances and medical equipment.
7. Respond appropriately to emergencies, following safety protocols.
8. Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plans as ordered.
9. Triaging and assessing healthcare requests.

Minimum Educational/Experience Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited LPN/LVN program.
• Current licensure as an LPN/LVN within the state of employment.

Employment and Security Requirements

• Maintain all certifications and licenses, including CPR/BLS and TB testing.

• Ability to move within the facility, communicate effectively, and stay calm under stress.
• Transport objects up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is performed inside a correctional facility with exposure to potential hazards. Compliance with security rules is mandatory.
