Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our outpatient clinic team. You will work under the supervision of a licensed nurse and physician to perform a wide variety of patient care activities and provide complete evaluations to patients.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient interaction, coordination of surgical scheduling, injections, wound care, and patient education on treatments and follow-up.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Board of Nursing Accredited vocational nursing program, or scheduled to complete within 120 days of applying.
• Current Texas Vocational Nursing license or a temporary permit to practice pending full licensure in Texas.
• NCLEX-PN must be passed on the first attempt for new graduates.

Work is performed under the direction of a licensed staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patient, families and clinic personnel.

Work is performed under the direction of a licensed staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patient, families and clinic personnel.

Major/Essential Functions

• Greet and assist patients in a professional, compassionate manner to promote a positive patient experience and supportive care environment.
• Provide guidance to patients' needs within the clinic and over the phone.
• Coordinate surgical scheduling and provide clinical support including injections, casting and splinting assistance, wound care, dressing changes, and follow-up care in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
• Educate patients and families by providing instruction on treatments, medications, self-care techniques, and follow-up care.
• Collaborate with health care team members to ensure patient needs are met.
• Obtain, document, and report patient vital signs, health histories, and clinical observations while assisting providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary clinical environment by cleaning exam rooms and properly sterilizing, disinfecting, and preparing medical equipment and supplies.

Required Qualifications

Education: Completion of a Board of Nursing Accredited program of vocational nursing or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.

License/Certification: Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) on the first attempt.

Experience: No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Orthopedics working with patients.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
