Brief Description
The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team. The LVN will practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician, assisting in assessing healthcare needs, performing nursing duties within the scope of practice for LVNs under the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Responsibilities will be assigned based on training, education, experience, and licensure.
Your Role in Action
- Utilizes a systematic nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to deliver services.
- Performs technical nursing skills, including diagnostic tests, medication administration, and therapeutic treatments, following agency policies.
- Documents care activities, observations, and responses accurately, complying with policies and regulatory standards.
- Educates consumers and families about medications, treatments, and disease processes, providing understandable health information.
- Ensures safety in nursing care delivery, focusing on consumer, environmental, and technical safety.
- Supervises and assigns tasks to other LVNs and unlicensed personnel, in structured healthcare settings.
- Demonstrates professional behaviors promoting positive outcomes in nursing practice.
- Uses problem-solving for decision-making and reports relevant information to supervisors.
- Provides health education regarding care needs to non-licensed staff.
- Maintains confidentiality and provides ethical, compassionate nursing care.
- Performs related duties as assigned, adapting to work changes.
- Complies with all agency policies, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) from a one-year college program.
Experience
- Preferred: 1 year (12 months) of licensed nursing experience (excluding clinical hours).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Preferred: Mental health, behavioral health, or IDD experience.
- Knowledge of Texas Nurse Practice Act and nursing standards.
- Understanding of pharmacy regulations, crisis intervention, infection control, and safety procedures.
- Effective communication, data collection, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to operate medical equipment and computer applications.
- Strong decision-making and time management skills.
