Job summary

The Los Alamitos Unified School District is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for a part-time role (approximately 28.75 hours per week) to deliver licensed nursing services to students from Pre-K through age 22. The position requires current LVN licensure in California, First Aid/CPR, and appropriate driving credentials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion and completion of a Licensed Vocational Nursing program approved by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians; board issued LVN license. A Registered Nurse license may be substituted.
• One year of experience providing physical care to disabled persons or working in a health care service environment.
• Valid California LVN license; First Aid and CPR certification; Valid California Class C Driver’s License; evidence of adequate vehicle insurance and ability to travel district-wide.

Responsibilities

• Provide a wide range of technical and skilled nursing duties and physical care for students from Pre-K to age 22 within the scope of practice for an LVN.
• Communicate with parents, school sites, and district personnel on health-related matters.
• Assist with medical screening of students and disseminate health information.
• Provide emergency medical care as required and participate in community-based instruction when applicable.

POSITION BENEFITS

Pay increases: The first pay increase for regular employees occurs after 6 months if the employee passes the probationary period. Pay increases occur annually thereafter, until top step is reached.

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the general direction of the Director of Safety and Student Services, Site Administrator, and regular supervision of a credentialed school nurse, perform a wide range of technical and skilled nursing duties and provide physical care for Pre-K to age 22 students within the scope of practice for a Licensed Vocational Nurse; perform specialized health services for students in regular education and special education programs, provide community based instruction for students, communicate with parents, school sites, and district personnel on health related matters, assist with medical screening of students, disseminate health information, and provide emergency medical care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion and completion of a Licensed Vocational Nursing program approved by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians and board issued LVN license. A Registered Nurse license may be substituted. BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE

• One year of experience providing physical care to disabled persons or working in a health care service environment.

POSSESS AND MAINTAIN THE FOLLOWING

• Valid California Vocational Nurse License – A Registered Nurse license may be substituted.


• Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate


• Valid California Class C Driver’s License at time of appointment and throughout employment


• Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continues to maintain insurability Personal transportation for job-related travel throughout the district

APPLICATION & EXAMINATION PROCESS

Some classifications require you to pass a physical examination. This examination is at the district’s expense and the appointment is not assured until you have passed this examination. Applicants must attain a passing score of 70% on each part of the examination in order to be placed on the eligibility list. Should a large number of candidates pass the written exam, a higher passing score than 70% may be required to progress.
