Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our busy Critical Care team. The role focuses on anesthesia management, triage, radiography and critical patient monitoring in a fast-paced environment.

You will work closely with skilled veterinary professionals, have opportunities to advance through our competency assessments, and benefit from shift differential pay for nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Veterinary Technician in Emergency and Critical Care.
• Ability to induce, monitor and recover anesthesia and use anesthesia equipment.
• Experience triaging emergency cases and recording vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Proficient in digital radiography and correct patient positioning.
• Strong understanding of normal vital signs and CPR readiness.
• Capable of phlebotomy and placing IV catheters.
• Ability to mentor and train other staff; patient and empathetic with clients.

Responsibilities

• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.

• Calculate medical dosages and administer medications correctly.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters when needed.
• Mentor and train co-workers; address client concerns with empathy.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department .

Pay: $30.00 - $42.50 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment.

** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience*

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
