Job summary

Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking a skilled Emergency Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) in Latham, NY. You will work hands-on with critical cases in a fast-paced setting, supporting veterinarians in diagnostics, treatments, and patient care.

This full-time role emphasizes collaboration, growth, and professional development through CE, sponsorships, and credential reimbursements. Evening and overnight coverage are required with a clear path for advancement.

Qualifications

  • LVT/RVT/CVT eligible to work in NY State.
  • Strong nursing foundation in inpatient care, venipuncture, radiology, and lab work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a fast-paced emergency setting.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team with initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming emergency patients with confidence and compassion.
  • Support pet owners during emotionally challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians on diagnostics, treatments, and case management.
  • Perform in-house lab testing and assist with advanced imaging procedures.
  • Administer treatments and medications as directed.
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and provide nursing care.
  • Assist with anesthesia events with precision and safety.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and deliver high-quality patient care.

Veterinary Technician, Emergency - LVT/RVT/CVT

Location: Latham, NY

Schedule: Full-Time | Three 12‑hour shifts per week | Evening and overnight coverage

Compensation: $25–$34/hour + $5/hour overnight differential

Join Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital as a full‑time Emergency Veterinary Technician in Latham, NY. Our Veterinary Technicians work hands‑on with critical cases in a fast‑paced emergency and specialty animal hospital while utilizing advanced clinical skills and continuing to grow in ECC medicine.

This is an opportunity for an LVT, RVT, or CVT who is passionate about Emergency and Critical Care, values collaboration, and wants to be part of a team where Veterinary Technicians are supported, respected, and empowered to advance their careers.

Compensation
  • $25–$34/hour, based on skills assessment and technician leveling
  • Overnight differential (11:00pm‑7:00am): Additional $5/hour

Schedule

Typically three 12‑hour shifts per week. Current scheduling needs are focused on evening and overnight coverage.

  • 4:00pm–4:00am
  • 7:00pm–7:00am

While not every shift will be overnight, flexibility to support these hours as needed is important.

Responsibilities
  • Triage incoming emergency patients with confidence and compassion
  • Support pet owners during emotionally challenging situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians on diagnostics, treatments, and case management
  • Perform in‑house laboratory testing and assist with advanced imaging procedures
  • Administer treatments and medications as directed
  • Monitor hospitalized patients and provide exceptional nursing care
  • Execute and monitor anesthetic events with precision and attention to detail
  • Deliver high‑quality patient care while maintaining accurate medical records
Qualifications
  • Licensed, Registered, or Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) eligible to work in New York State
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Strong foundation in inpatient nursing care, venipuncture, radiology, and laboratory procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced emergency veterinary environment
  • Positive attitude with a team‑oriented approach to patient care

  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
