Emergency Veterinary & Specialty Services of Roanoke is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our 24/7 emergency and critical care team in Roanoke, VA. The role requires active licensure, at least 1 year of professional experience, and the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities include triage, lab sample collection and analysis, anesthesia administration, radiographic positioning, and client communication.

Job description

Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Emergency Veterinary & Specialty Services of Roanoke offers 24-hour emergency and critical care to the pets of the Roanoke region. Because we are the only 24/7 ER in the area, we take great pride in our commitment to serve the other veterinarians within our community. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We're Looking For:

• A Licensed Veterinary Technician with an active license required, 1+ year professional experience required.
  • If not currently licensed in VA, applicantsmust be eligible for license acquisition or transfer.
• Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Experience and familiarity withanesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
• Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
• Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
• Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
• Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens.
• Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
• Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
