Job summary

Alliance Animal Health in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our 24/7 Emergency Veterinary & Specialty Services team. The role requires night, weekend, and holiday availability and involves triage, anesthesia monitoring, lab work, imaging, and medical nursing for critical cases.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of professional experience, VA licensure or transfer eligibility, excellent client communication, and a commitment to animal welfare.

Qualifications

  • Licensed veterinary technician with active VA license required.
  • 1+ year professional experience required.
  • Eligible for VA license transfer if not currently licensed in VA.
  • Shifts include nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Animal restraint and triage of incoming patients.
  • Collection and analysis of lab samples and diagnostic imaging.
  • Nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases, anesthesia management.
  • Communication of treatment plans with clients and surgical preparation.

Job description

Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Emergency Veterinary & Specialty Services of Roanoke offers 24-hour emergency and critical care to the pets of the Roanoke region. Because we are the only 24/7 ER in the area, we take great pride in our commitment to serve the other veterinarians within our community. Our team comes to work excited to manage the diverse caseload and ready to fully utilize their strengths to provide high-quality care for our client’s pets.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We're Looking For:

  • A Licensed Veterinary Technician with an active license required, 1+ year professional experience required.
    • If not currently licensed in VA, applicantsmust be eligible for license acquisition or transfer.
  • Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Experience and familiarity withanesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens.
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
