Job summary

Bideawee in New York is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to deliver high‑quality medical care for in‑house and adoption center animals. The role combines clinical and administrative duties in a full‑time schedule (Tue–Sat, 8am–5pm) with an hourly range of $30–$34.

Responsibilities include restraint, blood draws, labs, anesthesia, surgeries, record keeping, and collaboration with the veterinary team to support animal welfare and successful adoptions.

Qualifications

  • Experienced in shelter medicine and spay-neuter surgery.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • NYS license required.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in proper animal restraint.
  • Ability to draw blood and place catheters (jugular and femoral catheterization a plus).
  • Laboratory procedures: blood handling, fecal/urinalysis.
  • Familiar with radiographic technique and placement; send radiographs for review.
  • Administration of IV drugs and anesthetics, understanding of anesthesia machine.
  • Monitor patients and identify medical emergencies.
  • Assist in surgery at the veterinarian's discretion.
  • Controlled drug log recording.
  • Basic proficiency with veterinary software programs.
  • Shelter and Surgery Responsibilities: Assist and perform anesthesia protocols in daily surgeries (premeds, induction, maintenance and recovery).
  • Monitor daily shelter checklists and perform task list.
  • Maintain shelter records; ensure accuracy for adoptions.
  • Help with foster/vaccine appointments.
  • Train and delegate to vet assistants and Adoption Center staff on surgical/medical aspects.
  • Train Veterinary Assistants in shelter software (vaccine entry, prescriptions, weights, treatments).
  • Oversee proper filling of prescriptions by Vet Assistants.
  • Care for hospitalized cases per Veterinarian orders.
  • Perform cat/dog intakes.

Position Purpose:

The Licensed Veterinary Technician provides high quality medical care to all in-patient and adoption center animals as directed by a senior veterinarian. They will perform and assist in all tasks related to veterinary medicine, both technical and administrative, for shelter and community animals. This is a full-time position, four days per week (Tue-Thu-Fri-Sat from 8am-5pm) with a salary of $30/hr - $34/hr.

Responsibilities:
Licensed Veterinary Technician Responsibilities
  • Proficiency in proper animal restraint.
  • Ability to draw blood and place catheters (jugular and femoral catheterization a plus).
  • Experienced or educated in laboratory procedures such as proper blood and specimen handling, reading of fecal assays and urinalysis.
  • Familiar with radiographic technique and positioning; and sending radiographs for review.
  • Administration of intravenous drugs and anesthetic agents, including understanding of the basic mechanics of an anesthesia machine.
  • Monitoring of all patients and able to identify medical emergencies.
  • Ability to assist in surgery at the discretion of the veterinarian.
  • Controlled drug log recording.
  • Basic understanding or the ability to learn veterinary software programs.
Shelter and Surgery Responsibilities
  • Assist and perform anesthesia protocols in all daily surgeries; including premeds, induction, maintenance and recovery of anesthesia.
  • Monitor shelter animals medical check list daily and perform task list.
  • Maintain shelter software records; ascertain records are accurate and ready for animals’ adoption
  • Perform and help Veterinarian with foster/vaccine appointments.
  • Train and delegate to vet assistants and Adoption Center Animal Care staff with regards to surgical and medical aspects of shelter animals.
  • Help train Veterinary Assistants in shelter software, specifically vaccine entry, making up prescriptions, patient weight entries and treatments.
  • Oversee the proper filling of prescriptions by the Veterinary Assistants
  • Care for hospitalized medical or post-surgery cases according to Veterinarian orders.
  • Perform cat/dog intakes
