Job summary

Livewell Animal Hospital – Hospital of Alexandria is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician for a full-time role in Alexandria, VA. You will monitor anesthesia, support surgery, perform dental x-rays, and help drive clinical workflow in a growing, modern clinic.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with a small team, and contribute to a positive hospital culture focused on high-quality medicine. This is a hands-on opportunity with steady schedules and a brand-new facility opening in 2025.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician in VA or eligible.
  • Strong anesthesia and monitoring skills (HR, BP, SpO2).
  • Proficiency in nursing, surgery, dental care, radiology and labs.

Responsibilities

  • Anesthesia monitoring and surgical support.

Licensed Veterinary Technician – Full Time

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Anesthesia monitoring and surgical support
  • Dental prophylaxis and dental x-rays

What They’re Looking For
  • Licensed (or eligible) Veterinary Technician in VA
  • Strong anesthesia and monitoring skills (HR, BP, SpO₂, etc.)
  • Confident with surgery and dentistry
  • Team-oriented, detail-focused, and proactive
  • Fear Free certified or open to becoming certified
Hospital Details
  • Services include surgery, dentals, rehab, acupuncture, and more
  • Digital radiology + digital dental X-ray
  • EZ Vet software, IDEXX labs (mostly sent out), CoVet scribe support
  • Community-focused (optional events like local dog festivals)

Schedule
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8am–6pm
  • Saturday (alternating): 8am–12pm
  • Closed Wednesdays & Sundays

Your Impact as a Licensed Veterinary Technician
Note

The Licensed Veterinary Technician title is used in various states based on state‑specific licensing and credentialing requirements. Responsibilities may vary depending on the hospital and/or state and will be outlined by the state’s Veterinary Practice Act and/or the responsible veterinarian, where applicable.

  • Utilize Your Full Skillset: You’ll be a vital part of the medical team, providing comprehensive patient care, including administering treatments, monitoring anesthesia, and performing lab work.
  • Be a Leader and Mentor: You’ll guide and support the medical team, ensuring an efficient workflow while mentoring others to help them grow their skills and careers.
  • Partner with Clients: You’ll be a key point of contact for pet owners, educating them on treatments, reviewing medical records, and confidently answering their questions.
  • Contribute to a Positive Culture: You’ll play an active role in training, providing feedback, and maintaining the high standards of our hospital environment.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
  • Graduate of an AVMA‑accredited Veterinary Technician program.
  • A current state veterinary technician license (LVT) in good standing.
  • Proficiency in a range of technical skills, including nursing, surgery, dental care, radiology, and laboratory procedures.
  • A calm and efficient approach, especially in fast‑paced or stressful situations.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for working collaboratively.
  • One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred.
