Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare’s Center for Avian & Exotic Medicine in New York, NY is looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our full-time team.

The role supports veterinarians, assists with surgeries, monitors patient status, and educates clients on Thrive Membership options and treatments.

Candidates should have VT licensure, 1–2 years of clinical experience, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds; day/evening/weekend shifts are required.

Qualifications

• Veterinary technician licensure required.
• 1–2 years of clinical experience.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program preferred; or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, squatting, reach, standing, and walking throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
• Assist with surgeries and procedures in accordance with your state's Veterinary Practice Act.
• Monitoring and assessing patient’s status
• Collecting blood and other samples for testing
• Placing catheters
• Communicate with clients about pet health concerns and Thrive Membership options
• Maintain medical records with practice systems
• Obtain health history and information from clients
• Use safe restraining techniques and keep treatment areas clean
