Licensed Therapists for High Risk Team in Counseling and Mental Health (CMH) / Clinical Instructor or Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences

USC Student Counseling Services is actively recruiting full-time licensed therapists (PhD/PsyD/LCSW/LMFT/LPCC) to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team committed to providing excellent clinical treatment, training, and outreach services regarding mental health and wellness. We seek licensed therapists with expertise in dealing with clients at risk or in crisis, possessing strong clinical skills, familiarity with university counseling center duties, and thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative, professional environment.

Overview of USC Student Health and Counseling and Mental Health

USC Student Health offers comprehensive campus health programs, including mental health services, medical services, prevention and health promotion, and more. The Department of Psychiatry's Counseling and Mental Health division (CMH) supports students in achieving their academic and personal goals through services such as individual, couples, and group counseling; crisis intervention; psychiatric evaluations; outreach; and training.

Position Description [Purpose, Scope, and Duties]

CMH High Risk Team clinicians/therapists provide individual and group therapy, intake assessments, triage, case consultations, and after-hours coverage. They deliver specialized psychotherapy and case management to students meeting risk criteria, perform student welfare checks alongside USC Department of Public Safety, supervise interns and practicum students, and provide didactic training and psycho-educational workshops.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's or higher degree in social work, marriage & family therapy, counseling, psychology, or related field
  • Licensed in California
  • Experience working with students/clients at risk or in crisis
  • Expertise in short-term treatment, including brief psychotherapy, stabilization, and crisis management
  • Resilient, self-aware, and capable of thriving in a demanding environment
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; multicultural competency with diverse student populations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in college counseling centers
  • LPS designation
  • Strong diagnostic skills
  • Experience with group work and training
  • Experience with issues such as transgender identity, trauma, eating disorders, substance use
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities

This full-time faculty position includes an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and clinical service in Counseling and Mental Health. Salary ranges from $95,000 to $130,000, with additional compensation for after-hours coverage. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, tuition assistance, paid leave, continuing education, and paid time off.
