Job description

Overview

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Licensed Therapist (LPHA) for our Jail Based Competency Restoration Program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Clinical Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (CR-LPHA) will provide clinical services focused on assessment and legal education for defendants found incompetent to stand trial. The position will involve training as identified by 46B statutory requirements with the curriculum approved by the state for competency restoration, as needed. The CRE will utilize effective strategies to assist the multidisciplinary team with the implementation of a learning environment to facilitate change, focused on individuals found to be incompetent to stand trial who may have serious mental illness and/or intellectual disabilities. This position is responsible for service delivery and collection and tracking of data for programmatic success.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conducts clinical assessments as ordered by the court and returns dispositions to the court in a timely manner, making a recommendation on appropriate placement of a defendant.
  • Facilitates competency restoration education in an individual or group setting, as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with administration and management to enhance the overall quality of care and services provided across the agency in a trauma informed manner.
  • Provides communication to the treatment team related to defendants learning.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the cultural diversity of individuals served, family members, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Assists in the monitoring of relevant standards, industry best practices, and evidence-supported practices ensuring that they meet and exceed healthcare training practices and statutory requirements.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements.
  • Monitors competency status of patients and communicates concerns to the treatment team.
  • Demonstrates ability to adapt and modify training materials to accommodate patient and agency needs.
Requirements
  • Must have a current licensure in the state of Texas as: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
  • At least 1 year of experience in training or instruction.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in the behavioral health or intellectual or developmental disability field.
