Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD in Houston is seeking a Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA) to perform independent assessments, crisis interventions, and treatment planning under supervision.

The LPHA will collaborate with psychiatrists and HCSD, work at multiple sites, and may provide CBT and education on medications. Weekend/holiday coverage is required; master's degree and Texas license are mandatory, with preference for 1–2 years of post-licensure experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field is required.
• Active Texas licenses LPC, LMFT, or LCSW are required.
• 1–2 years of post-licensure clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent assessments and crisis interventions as needed.
• Monitor progress toward treatment goals and adjust care plans.
• Provide therapy such as CBT and education on mental health and medications.
• Coordinate care access and participate in treatment planning and discharge planning.
• Maintain timely documentation and comply with policies.

Brief Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA) to join our team! Under the general direction of the Program Manager or Designee, the LPHA performs clinical activities such as independent assessments, and crisis and /or service interventions as directed by the treatment plan and/or identified consumer need(s). This position interfaces with the inpatient and outpatient psychiatrists and Harris County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD) Medical Services and authorizes the medical necessity of services as indicated. This position may provide monitoring, clinical supervision and training of other staff. Services are provided at the HCSD, 701 San Jacinto and 1200 Baker Street locations. Coverage on weekends and holidays will be required.

Your Role In Action

• Monitors consumer progress with treatment goals to determine effectiveness of interventions.
• Performs clinical assessments to evaluate the individual’s need for service.
• May provide cognitive behavioral therapy focusing on the reduction or elimination of symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and increasing the individual’s ability to perform activities of daily living.
• Provides crisis intervention to individuals to reduce symptoms and prevent admission to a more restrictive environment.
• Provides training/education on the nature of mental illness, addressing the symptom related problems interfering with the individual’s functioning, the importance of medications, and other medication related information, as well as, other skills trainings as designated.
• Performs activities to assist consumers in gaining and coordinating access to necessary care and services based on individual needs
• Responsible for participation in formulation of consumer’s treatment which may include any or all of the following: assessment of needs, treatment planning, admit/discharge planning.
• Communicates and works with consumers/visitors/other staff in a manner that demonstrates sensitivity to cultural diversities.
• Completes reporting/training as designated in an accurate and timely manner.
• Meets divisional productivity standards
• Demonstrates ethical conduct in all clinical and professional activities.
• Performs related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements.
• Complies with agency policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and performance contract documentation requirements.

What Qualifications Do You Need

• Master's degree required
• Must hold a current license in the State of Texas to include:
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Experience

1-2 years of clinical experience post licensure post master's degree preferred.
