About The Health & Wellness Department

The Health & Wellness Department’s goal is to promote mental wellness and increase awareness of mental health access to San Francisco’s Southeast Asian communities. The department’s program implements culturally and linguistically appropriate services ensuring that mental health resources and support are accessible and relevant. The department conducts wellness promotion activities, provides counseling, individual and group therapeutic services in addition to psycho-educational workshops.

Licensed Therapist

The Licensed Therapist provides clinically and culturally competent mental health services to youth and adults at the Southeast Asian Development Center. The Licensed Therapist conducts psych-assessments, prepares intervention and treatment plan, and provides short-term individual and group therapy.

This position requires independent thought and discretion, as well as the ability to proactively assess SEADC client mental health needs, and situations that require higher level of intervention. The candidate must have a deep understanding of behavioral services and/or health prevention services to improve Southeast Asian Americans health outcomes. They must have skill sets in evidence-based psychotherapy and behavioral change with experience in delivering person-centered care.

The Licensed Therapist reports to the Director of Programs.

Position Title: Licensed Therapist

Compensation: $88,000-94,000 annual, Exempt; Full time, expected hours of work 37.5 hours per week

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Client Services (90%)

  • Provides clinically & culturally competent short-term individual counseling on- and off-site to SEADC youth, families, adults, and older adults.
  • Provides clinically & culturally competent group counseling, support, and psychoeducational services on- and off-site to SEADC youth, families, adults, and older adults.
  • Conducts, screening, intakes & initial assessments of clients in culturally appropriate and sensitive manners that builds strong rapport.
  • Conduct mental health treatment plans to identify client needs and goals and engage in continuous clinical documentation towards goals.
  • Collect and document client and service information in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain client case files and records in organized fashion, in compliance with HIPAA regulations and funder requirements.
  • Ensure clients receive high quality services and follow all legal and ethical state and BBS guidelines.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to staff on client’s mental health needs.
  • Enters accurate client data and complete monthly reports in a timely manner.

Administrative Duties (10%)
  • Updates necessary changes such as new clinical laws and procedures to clinical manual as needed.
  • Collaborates with Project Coordinator to case plan for referrals and services outside of client’s mental health needs. This includes linkage to community resources to assist clients with achieving their goals.
  • Assist Executive Director and Director of Programs in building a strong behavioral health program and participate in overall goal achievement.
  • Attends monthly all staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins with supervisor.
  • Attends monthly funder meetings that include clinical team consultations and program check-ins.
  • Engage in meetings with SEADC mental health consultant as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs.

Qualifications

Education:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social Work from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed as an LMFT/MFCC/LPCC/LCSW in California.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Experience working with children, youth, adults, older adults, and/or families from culturally diverse backgrounds and low-income neighborhoods.
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge in short-term and preventative counseling, case management, and linkage for diverse communities
  • Knowledge of trauma, chemical dependency and dual diagnosis
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Clinical expertise to effectively assess, coordinate, implement and evaluate all services required to meet the needs of the client
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Familiarity with privacy, health and safety laws
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, performance-oriented environment.
  • Attend external and internal events, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position.
  • Adept at navigating different technologies:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
  • Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams
  • Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of new such systems by providing feedback
  • Other requirements as needed

Desired Skills And Experience

  • Bilingual spoken language proficiency in an Asian or Southeast Asian language, especially Khmer, Lao, Thai, or Vietnamese,
  • Combination of education and clinical experience related to behavioral health issues related to immigration, migration, and other social issues faced by the Southeast Asian community;
  • Knowledge and self-awareness of issues of race, class, and ethnicity.
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness, competence, and humility in therapeutic settings.
  • Demonstrate ability to connect with other potential providers of mental and medical health services.
  • Excellent listening and interview skills to explore patient needs and administer treatment plans
  • Strong oral communication skills to counsel and advise patients
  • Coaching skills to help patients make positive changes
  • Organization skills to maintain up-to-date, easy-to-navigate patient files

Additional Qualities And Requirements

  • Passion for the organization's mission and values
  • Able to travel locally as needed
  • Participation in events outside typical work hours/office, including the annual staff strategic planning offsite and annual staff social day,
  • Pass fingerprinting background check and TB clearance before start date

Physical Requirements

  • Possesses multi-limb and eye-hand coordination.
  • Able to stand, bend, reach, stoop and lift items up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods of time.
  • Able to sit at desk, work on a computer, and hold meetings via videoconferencing and phones for a full workday
  • Capable of participating in program activities and events that involve walking and delivering presentations.
