Responsibilities:
- Assess and diagnose: Use interviews, observation, and psychological tests to evaluate a client's needs.
- Build rapport: Establish trusting relationships with clients.
- Encourage communication: Help clients talk about their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors.
- Develop coping strategies: Help clients find ways to deal with their issues.
- Plan and carry out therapy: Identify appropriate techniques and lead sessions to help clients make changes.
- Create and maintain records: Keep accurate, confidential records of client sessions and progress.
- Consult with other professionals: Work with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and teachers to develop treatment plans.
- Stay current: Keep up with research and theory, and network with other professionals.
