Job summary

A leading design firm is looking for a Licensed Surveyor to support the Midwest Region by conducting various types of surveys and managing projects. Responsibilities include conducting boundary and construction layout surveys, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with engineers and architects. The ideal candidate should have a relevant degree, an active Ohio Professional Surveyor license, and at least 3 years of survey experience. Licensed Surveyor – Volkert, Inc.

Overview

Volkert is seeking an experienced Licensed Surveyor to support our Midwest Region. If you have a passion for surveying, project management, and sustainability, we invite you to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Surveying & Data Collection:
    • Conduct boundary, topographic, right‑of‑way, and construction layout surveys using GPS, total stations, and other instruments.
    • Collect, analyze, and certify survey data for public and private projects.
    • Prepare plats, legal descriptions, and technical reports.
  • Project Management:
    • Plan and schedule survey projects, including budgeting and resource allocation.
    • Supervise and train survey crews; ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.
    • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams to support project planning and execution.
  • Compliance & Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate field notes, logs, and digital records.
    • Interpret and apply engineering plans and specifications.
  • Technology & Software:
    • Use CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D), Trimble, Carlson, and GIS tools for mapping and modeling.
    • Utilize 3D scanning, GNSS, and aerial photogrammetry where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Active Ohio Professional Surveyor (PS) license.
  • Minimum 3 years of field surveying experience, preferably in civil or transportation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles, local laws, and safety practices.
  • Proficiency with survey instruments and technical software.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening; compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle report.
  • Post‑offer fit‑for‑duty evaluation if applicable.
