In the Juvenile Justice residential setting/facility, the Licensed Psychologist is responsible for the following:
The Licensed Psychologist works with youth case managers, direct care staff, education and medical staff to develop and enact comprehensive treatment plans aimed at increasing youths skills in the areas of emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.
The Licensed Psychologist reports to the Facility Assistant Director for Treatment (ADT) who provides individual and group clinical supervision. A monthly state-wide psychology supervision provides practitioners the opportunity to discuss cases and systems considerations with other psychologists working in DJJOY facilities (of which there are 9). DJJOY provides numerous clinical trainings with accompanying NYS Department of Education approved Continuing Education Units (CEU’s).
Transfer: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
Open to the Public: This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).* To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The minimum qualifications for this position are: Licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State.
Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.
A starting salary rate increase for staff hired into the Licensed Psychologist titles is in effect. The starting salary for Licensed Psychologists is now $114,444. Staff in these titles have also been approved to receive geographic pay of $20,000.
An individual with experience and the necessary skill sets to provide crucial behavioral and mental health services to adolescents with developmental and intellectual disabilities is preferred.
NY HELPS
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. It is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
