Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT)
This position provides essential mental health support services under the supervision of licensed nursing staff in correctional or behavioral health environments. The role involves direct patient care, observation, crisis response, vital sign monitoring, hygiene support, infection control, and other nursing‑delegated tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and monitor patients with mental health or developmental needs.
- Support hygiene, feeding, and daily living tasks while tracking patient progress.
- Respond to behavioral emergencies using trained techniques and first aid.
- Perform nursing‑delegated tasks such as vital signs and specimen collection.
- Ensure safety and infection control through regular rounds and standard precautions.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and specialized training for licensing/certification.
Experience
- Experience facilitating groups with mental health patients.
- One year of experience, preferably within a correctional/detention facility.
Licenses & Certifications
- Unrestricted Psychiatric Technician license in the state of practice (current and maintained).
- Lifesaving BLS certification through AHA (current and maintained).
- Lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA (current and maintained).
