Job summary

TeemaGroup is seeking a licensed psychiatric nurse to provide direct psychiatric and basic nursing care to incarcerated patients in a secure correctional facility. You will administer prescribed medications and monitor effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct psychiatric and basic nursing care to incarcerated patients in a secure correctional environment.
  • Administer prescribed psychiatric and medical medications and monitor for effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions.
  • Observe, assess, and document changes in patients’ mental status, behavior, emotional condition, and physical health.
  • Obtain and record vital signs and assist with basic nursing procedures within the LPT scope of practice.
  • Monitor patients with acute or chronic mental health conditions and promptly report significant changes to RNs, physicians, psychiatrists, or other clinical staff.
  • Provide crisis intervention, behavioral support, suicide-prevention monitoring, and verbal de-escalation for patients experiencing psychiatric distress.
  • Assist with implementation of individualized treatment and behavioral management plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records, including medication administration, behavioral observations, and patient progress.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, physicians, mental health clinicians, custody officers, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Respond appropriately to psychiatric and medical emergencies while following established institutional protocols.
  • Maintain medication security, inventory, and proper controlled-medication procedures.
  • Follow HIPAA, infection-control, patient-safety, and correctional security requirements.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and provide respectful, patient-centered care to diverse incarcerated populations.
  • Follow all facility safety and security procedures, including movement restrictions, emergency procedures, and coordination with custody staff.
