Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a licensed professional counselor to provide counseling to inmates and implement complex treatment and discharge plans. You will coordinate with medical, psychiatric, and correctional staff to ensure continuity of care and compliance with directives.

Strong supervision and documentation skills are essential. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree, LPC licensure, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from CHEA/USDE-accredited institution.
  • Current valid licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to Inmates and implement complex treatment and discharge plans.
  • Serve as a professional resource to other counselors and provide clinical supervision and guidance.
  • Provide mental health services to Inmates in compliance with directives.
  • Conduct diagnosis and evaluation tests to determine needs and develop plans.
  • Prepare progress reports and discharge recommendations; assist program supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and audit inmate files; ensure documentation is complete.
  • Attend staff meetings; promote effective communication between administration, staff and Inmates.
  • Model positive social skills and provide regular feedback to staff on interventions.

Pay: $70,000 annual salary

Schedule: Full time, Monday – Friday, day schedule

What you’ll do:

You’ll be responsible for providing counseling services to Inmates and implementing complex treatment and discharge plans for Inmates with dual diagnosis, social or mental health issues. Serves as a professional resource to other counselors in resolving complex case problems and provides clinical supervision and guidance. Provides mental health services to Inmates in compliance with medical and East Texas Treatment Facility (ETTF), Management &Training Corporation (MTC), and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.

Essential Functions
  • Knowledge of alcoholism, chemical dependency, addiction, co-dependency, and related disorders.
  • Design, implement complex programs treatment and discharge plans for Inmates with dual diagnosis, social or mental health issues; conducts intensive or comprehensive interventions.
  • Assume independent clinical responsibility for all Inmates including the application of crisis intervention techniques to include suicide prevention, recognizing abnormal behavior, and taking appropriate action to prevent or diffuse potentially disruptive situations.
  • Collaborates with supervisor or other psychiatric, social work, or medical professionals on specific case related issues to maintain continuity of care, and to aid in achieving therapeutic and restorative goals for Inmates through individual and group counseling.
  • Conduct diagnosis and evaluation tests for Inmates to determine needs, establish goals and develop plans; make referrals to contract professionals for assessment and treatment of Inmates.
  • Prepare progress reports; provide recommendations regarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assist program supervisor and treatment team.
  • Maintain and monitor confidentiality of Inmates and their files; audit files to determine that all services provided are documented; review status of Inmates to determine that all treatment and therapeutic programs are completed.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communication and the proper flow of relevant information between administration, staff and Inmates.
  • Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervene when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  • Maintain accountability of Inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or United States Department of Education (USDE).
  • Must possess current valid licensure as aLicensed Professional Counselor. Must maintain valid licensure for continued employment in position.
  • A valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
