Job summary

Sentara Gastroenterology Specialists in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our physician practice on a full-time, day-shift basis. The LPN will support providers, prepare patients, perform basic diagnostics, administer meds, and educate patients within ambulatory care guidelines.

Qualified candidates will have an active LPN/LVN license, NCLEX-PN completion, and BLS. One to two years of ambulatory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited practical nursing program required.
• Current, unencumbered LPN/LVN license required; NCLEX-PN completed.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Rooms patients, records health information and vital signs.

Overview

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a physician practice or clinic supports providers and registered nurses in delivering direct patient care in the ambulatory setting. The role rooms patients, gathers and records health information, measures vital signs, administers medications and immunizations, collects blood specimens, and performs simple diagnostic tests. The LPN prepares patients and rooms for examinations, assists with procedures, and provides patient education and follow-up instructions within scope. Working closely with the care team, the LPN helps manage patient flow, responds to messages and refill requests under provider direction, and may direct the work of medical assistants and aides. Accurate documentation in the electronic health record supports continuity, care coordination, and safe outpatient care.

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Completion of an accredited practical nursing program leading to LPN/LVN eligibility is required.

Certification/Licensure

• Current, unencumbered state Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN) license is required.
• Successful completion of the NCLEX-PN examination is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Experience

• One to two years of nursing experience is preferred, ideally in an ambulatory or outpatient setting.
• Experience in an ambulatory or physician practice setting is preferred.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $26.10 - $38.70 hourly. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
