Duties

The practice of nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse involves tasks within the scope of supportive & restorative care, medication administration, and specialized tasks under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse or a legally authorized physician or dentist.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing nursing care in routine situations.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living.
  • Administering treatments such as suctioning and urinary catheterizations.
  • Preparing patients for procedures and tests.
  • Administering medications within scope of practice and processing specimens.
  • Setting up intravenous equipment and delivering infusion solutions.
  • Administering blood products with proper training.
  • Reporting observations, treatments, and incidents to the RN and documenting appropriately.
  • Contributing to care plans and patient/family education.
  • Providing emotional support and assisting in patient rehabilitation.
  • Ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Participating in patient care conferences.
  • Assisting in emergency procedures like BCLS and documenting care.
Education & Certification Requirements
  • Completion of an educational program for LPN licensure.
  • Successful completion of NY State Department of Health IV Therapy Program.
  • Annual review and update in intravenous therapy procedures.

Licensing: LPN issued by NY State Department of Health. Certifications: BLS from AHA.
