Job summary

Midwestern Career College in Chicago seeks an experienced Nursing Simulation Educator to lead classroom and lab activities using high-, medium-, and low-fidelity simulators. You will partner with nursing faculty to guide student learning, provide structured debriefing, and ensure safe lab operations.

The role requires an Illinois RN license, a BSN, and at least 1 year of fast-paced simulation experience. You will also support IT and lab safety, and participate in program evaluation efforts as

  • Current unrestricted Illinois RN license required.
  • BSN required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a fast-paced simulation environment.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students using simulation scenarios (pre- and post-simulation).
  • Partner with nursing faculty to provide feedback via debriefing sessions.
  • Assist with preparation, breakdown, and cleanup of simulation labs.
  • Educate staff, faculty, and students on simulation equipment operation.
  • Manage simulation technology during sessions as a technician for simulators.
  • Record simulation exercises and provide AV files to faculty and students.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment and proper hazardous material handling.
  • Assist with IT-related needs and safety policies for simulations.
  • Collaborate with Director evaluating resources and data for program outcomes.
  • Lead tours of the center to visitors.
  • Maintain professional competence in simulations.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director.

General Purpose
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
  • Instructs students using simulation scenarios, including pre- and post-simulation.
  • Partners directly with nursing faculty in the process of student learning, assessment, and performance by providing feedback through debriefing sessions.
  • Assists faculty with the preparation, break down, and cleanup of instructional laboratory simulation sessions.
  • Assists with educating staff, faculty, and students on the use and operation of simulation laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Manages simulation (high, medium, and low fidelity) technology during simulation education sessions by acting as technician to run simulators.
  • Records simulation exercises and makes the audio/visual files available to faculty and students for education purposes.
  • Ensures a safe learning environment, the safe storage and disposal of all hazardous materials, and oversees the implementation of lab rules and procedures.
  • Assists with technical and operational systems design, policies, planning, safety and support, and for IT-related needs.
  • In collaboration with the Director, evaluates effectiveness of resources and teaching aids provided, oversees the collection of evaluation data on learning outcomes for simulation activities, and provides data and disseminates findings as necessary for the program evaluation plan.
  • Participates and/or leads tours of the center to visitors.
  • Seeks opportunities to maintain professional competence related to simulations.
  • Performs other responsibilities and projects assigned by the Director of the Center.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal and written communication skills, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel, and Power Point, and the Internet.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling student files and personal student information.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work varying schedules and hours, if necessary, to accommodate open lab hours.
  • Ability to correctly lift and carry manikins, equipment, and supplies.
  • Will take initiative, prioritize, and adapt to shifting variety of duties.
  • Skilled in debriefing using a planned and structured framework.
Education and/or Experience
  • Current unrestricted Illinois RN license (required).
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Master’s degree in nursing (preferred).
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in a fast-paced teaching/learning simulation environment (required).
  • Working knowledge of computer software and networked systems (including wireless networks) used in support of teaching in a clinical laboratory setting and experience in providing technical assistance (required).
Physical Demands
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
