Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide direct patient care on the 7 South Neurosurgical/Orthopedic Unit. The team includes RNs, a Clinical Educator, and support staff; new graduates are welcomed.

Care is delivered in a track schedule with a 1:5 patient ratio on an adult and geriatric unit. Responsibilities include assessment, planning with interdisciplinary groups, administering meds, maintaining charts, and ensuring patient safety,

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure.
• 1-2 years of related clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates in assessment of patient.
• Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care.
• Follows patient’s plan of care while participating in the direct nursing care to assigned patients.
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s).
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care.
• Administers medication as ordered by physician.
• Facilitates a safe environment.
• Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately.
• Maintains required competencies.
• Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care.
• Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff.
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen.
• Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services.
• Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity.

Major Job Functions

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Formal Training: High school graduate or equivalent required

Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure

Unit Description: 7 South is a 25 Bed Neurosurgical/Orthopedic Unit consisting of adult and geriatric patients, working on a track schedule.

Patient ratio 1:5. Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistant's, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists. New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!

Work Experience: 1-2 years of related clinical experience preferred.

Orthopedic/Neurosurgical General & Podiatry surgery Wound care Surgical Drains Trauma, Vascular, Cardio monitoring PCA Pump, and Telemetry required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
• Verbal and written skills required
• Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of the patients typically served

Physical Requirements:

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
• Visual acuity for observation of patients
• Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
