Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania – Department of Military and Veterans Affairs at the Southeast Veterans Home seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide compassionate, resident‑centered care in a respectful team setting.

You will perform health assessments, administer medications, observe residents, coordinate care, and provide specialized Alzheimer care. Part‑time with 8‑hour shifts, rotating weekends; telework not available. Starting wage is $33.03 per hour.

Qualifications

• Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Must obtain Licensed Practical Nurse license within one year if holding a PA temporary practice permit.
• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.
• Must provide current PA temporary practice permit or PA LPN license at appointment.
• Conditional offer requires medical examination and background clearances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps ensure that residents receive consistent, safe, and respectful nursing care in a supportive environment. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Health Assessment Support: Assist the RN by checking resident health status and ensuring accurate and confidential documentation
• Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments, verify pharmacy orders, and maintain accurate records
• Resident Observation: Observe residents for changes or concerns and report findings while documenting daily care activities
• Care Coordination: Work with the RN to help plan and adjust resident care and participate in nursing committees when needed
• Safety and Hygiene: Ensure residents are clean, safe, and well groomed while supporting infection control practices
• Specialized Care: Provide focused care for residents in specialty units such as Alzheimer care

WORK HOURS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Part‑time employment; 8hrs per day, 40hrs biweekly
• Positions are available on the following shifts:
• 2nd shift – 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
• 3rd shift – 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
• Rotating schedules and also works every other weekend.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly salary of $33.03 (before taxes).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
