Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is seeking an Licensed Practical Nurse for the Southeast Veterans Home. You will deliver compassionate, safe nursing care to veterans and spouses in a supportive, respectful environment.

The full-time position offers 2nd or 3rd shift options (3:00 PM–11:30 PM or 11:00 PM–7:30 AM), the starting salary of $68,914, and eligibility for the Nursing Referral Program.

Qualifications

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• Must obtain licensure as an LPN within one year if currently holding a temporary permit.
• PA residency requirement is waived for this title.

Responsibilities

• Health Assessment Support: assist the RN by checking resident health status and documenting findings.
• Medication Management: administer medications and verify orders with accurate records.
• Resident Observation: monitor residents for changes and report concerns.
• Care Coordination: collaborate with RN to plan and adjust resident care.
• Safety and Hygiene: maintain infection control and resident hygiene.
• Specialized Care: provide focused care in units such as Alzheimer’s care.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps ensure that residents receive consistent, safe, and respectful nursing care in a supportive environment.

• Health Assessment Support: Assist the RN by checking resident health status and ensuring accurate and confidential documentation


• Medication Management: Administer medications and treatments, verify pharmacy orders, and maintain accurate records


• Resident Observation: Observe residents for changes or concerns and report findings while documenting daily care activities


• Care Coordination: Work with the RN to help plan and adjust resident care and participate in nursing committees when needed


• Safety and Hygiene: Ensure residents are clean, safe, and well groomed while supporting infection control practices


• Specialized Care: Provide focused care for residents in specialty units such as Alzheimer care

Work Hours and Additional Information

• Full-time employment, 8hrs per day, 40hrs per week

• Rotating weekends and holidays.

• Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.


• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.


• If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.


• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
