Job summary

Planned Parenthood South Atlantic is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to support surgical procedures and patient recovery in a busy health center. You will work under a provider, maintain documentation, and help with medication management in line with PPSAT policies.

The position is part‑time (20 hours or less per week) with a Friday shift 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM, offering a pay range of $24.50 to $29.50 per hour.

Qualifications

  • LPN license in VA or compact state
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire
  • ACLS certification within 90 days if center provides moderate sedation

Key Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
  • Demonstrates quality customer service by making patients the priority, offering a warm greeting, and being sensitive and responsive to patient needs.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation including charts, logs, and CI/CIICs.
  • Assist clinician in making patient referrals and documenting appointments scheduled in patient chart.
  • Follows Center procedures for the processing and provision of OTC and prescription medications and birth control supplies.
  • Provide nursing care to the patients in the recovery room in accordance with all PPSAT medical standards and guidelines, and all applicable state (Dept of Health, Pharmacy Board, Nursing Board, Medical Board) and federal (OSHA, CLIA, DEA) regulations.
  • Assist and monitor patients in recovery room, including taking vital signs, administering medication, giving verbal and written after‑care instructions and birth control information, and reporting signs or symptoms of post‑abortion complications to the provider on duty.
  • Provides education in a non‑judgmental manner to patients by giving support and information on reproductive and sexual health issues, including birth control methods and pregnancy options including abortion, STI’s/HIV and safer sex.
  • Responsible for stocking the recovery room with necessary supplies such as snacks, drinks, pads, brochures, and PPSAT consent/patient education sheets.
  • Assist with health center preparations and patient education as necessary and directed.
  • Prepare and administer medications per provider orders. Not to include preparing or administering medications via IV push.
  • Maintain complete and accurate log of controlled substances administration.
  • Ensure patient charts and logs are completed and maintained in a timely, accurate and thorough manner, including staff signatures and initials where required.
  • Assist with the completion and documentation of Quality Control tasks, audits, and other quality assurance/management procedures as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain IV access as needed.
  • Assist provider with routine procedures and emergencies during clinical sessions.
  • Monitor emergency cart inventory and equipment log on a monthly basis for all routine and emergency expired medications and supplies per PPSAT protocol. Report any concerns to HCM or ND.
  • Take responsibility to remain informed about family planning methods, abortion options, services offered by PPSAT, and PPSAT protocols, policies, and procedures.
What You Bring to the Role
  • LPN license in the state of VA or compact member state.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
  • ACLS certification if working in a center that provides moderate sedation within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to prioritize.
  • Good communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Work Schedule

This is a part‑time role (20 hours or less per week):

  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM (every Friday)

Please note that the work schedule reflects the clinic schedule, and actual hours worked may vary due to day‑to‑day operations. All staff are expected to remain at the health center until all patients are checked out, documentation is completed, and the health center is cleaned.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $24.50 to $29.50 per hour. Starting offers are determined by both the candidate's experience and internal equity within the pay grade. PPSAT's compensation philosophy is based in equity and transparency. Built from data‑driven compensation studies, our positions are placed within a developed pay grade.
