Job summary

Planned Parenthood South Atlantic seeks a Float Clinician to support multiple health centers across Virginia and North Carolina, offering variety, flexibility, and opportunities to expand clinical skills while delivering high‑quality reproductive health care.

You will rotate through PPSAT centers, perform pelvic and breast exams, STI testing, contraceptive care, and patient education, collaborate with diverse teams, and uphold our mission of equitable, patient‑centered care.

Qualifications

• Active licensure/certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Certified Nurse Midwife, with experience in reproductive health
• Current CPR certification
• 2 years’ medical experience, ideally in gynecology or family planning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• A desire to continue learning new clinical techniques and expanding professional knowledge

Responsibilities

• Meet or exceed goals across clinical quality, patient satisfaction, workplace culture, and sustainability
• Take comprehensive reproductive and general health histories and document findings
• Perform physical exams including pelvic and breast exams and pap smears
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests according to PPSAT standards
• Provide patient education on fertility, contraception, STIs, and preventive health
• Prescribe and dispense contraceptives per PPSAT policies
• Support abortions care including sonography and related steps
• Train and mentor clinicians and students
• Rotate across all PPSAT health centers in Virginia and North Carolina

Licensure Support:

If selected, PPSAT will assist you in securing:

• A North Carolina or Virginia clinical license
• DEA registration

Position Details:

• Full‑time role, Monday–Friday, plus one Saturday per quarter
• Hours vary by location, averaging 30–34 hours per week
• Travel required throughout North Carolina and Virginia
• Overnight travel may be required:

PPSAT provides:

• At least three weeks’ notice for overnights (for centers 3+ hours away)
• At least one week’s notice for day travel assignments

Workdays extend until all patients are discharged, documentation is complete, and the health center is fully closed for the day.

What You'll Bring:

• Active licensure/certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Certified Nurse Midwife, with experience in reproductive health
• Current CPR certification
• 2 years’ medical experience, ideally in gynecology or family planning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

What You'll Do: (but not limited to)

• Consistently meet or exceed goals across four performance quadrants: clinical quality, patient satisfaction, workplace culture, and sustainability
• Conduct comprehensive reproductive and general health histories and document findings accurately
• Perform physical exams, including pelvic and breast exams, pap smears, STI diagnosis, endometrial biopsies, colposcopies, and other procedures aligned with protocols and privileging
• Order, interpret, and review diagnostic tests according to PPSAT clinical standards
• Provide patient education on fertility, contraception, STIs, family planning, nutrition, sexuality, and preventive health
• Prescribe and dispense contraceptives following PPSAT policies
• Apply correct CPT and ICD‑10 coding, including E&M code selection
• Participate in PPSAT’s Quality & Risk Management Program, supporting audits, testing, and clinical improvement initiatives
• Work collaboratively with clinicians, health center teams, and partnering agencies
• Provide gender‑affirming patient care in line with clinical protocols
• Recognize abnormal findings, coordinate follow‑up, and provide referrals when needed
• Serve as clinical support during abortion care, including sonography, informed consent, medication administration, lab evaluation, recovery, and follow‑up
• Help train and mentor clinicians, students, and other medical professionals
• As a Float Clinician, you will rotate across all PPSAT health centers in Virginia and North Carolina, following all PPSAT travel policies.

Compensation:

PPSAT is committed to equitable and transparent pay practices. This position is placed within our established pay structure, with an hourly pay range of $57.60 to $72.00 per hour. Starting salary will be determined based on your experience and internal equity. Saturday differential of additional $7.00 per hour. The travel rate is $28.80 per hour. PPSAT offers a travel incentive based on mileage.
