Job summary

Opelousas General Health System is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct nursing care to patients in Opelousas, Louisiana. The ideal candidate must possess a Vocational/Technical degree in Practical Nursing, along with a Louisiana LPN license.

This role involves utilizing the nursing process to care for adult patients, documenting care, and acting as a patient advocate. Preferred candidates will have some experience in Behavioral Health and hold certifications in CPR and ACLS.

Qualifications

• One year of LPN experience preferred.

Overview

Under direction, provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for adult patients.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
• Provides direct patient care.
• Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
• Documents and maintains data on patient’s record.
• Maintains a safe environment.
• Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
• Provides for life support.
• Acts as a patient advocate.
• Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
• Participates in performance improvement.
• Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
• Performs related work as required.
• Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations.
• Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
• Provides basic nursing care under the directions of the Registered Nurse.

Education

Education: Vocational/Technical degree in Practical Nursing required.

Certification / License

Certification/License: Louisiana LPN license required. CPR required. ACLS preferred.

Additional Experience (Preferred)

• One year of LPN experience preferred.
