Job description

Summary

This LPN position is located within the Cedar Rapids VA Clinic, serving as a member of a Primary Care - Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). The PACT model is patient-centered, accessible, timely, coordinated, comprehensive, and compassionate. The LPN plays a crucial role by providing evaluation and care consistent with licensure, collaborating with staff to develop care plans, managing workflow, and covering lab duties as assigned.

Duties
  1. Participate in VA careers and learn about the total rewards of an Allied Health Professional. The Cedar Rapids VA Clinic is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring staff to be flexible, adaptable, and composed under pressure.
  2. Work under the supervision of the RN or Provider, performing both basic and specialized nursing activities. Receive training in specialized skills such as EKG, Holter monitoring, specimen collection, etc.
  3. Opportunities for leadership development through the VHA LEAD program for high-potential LPNs.
  4. Perform nursing care activities including vital signs, blood draws, dressing changes, and EKGs.
  5. Contribute to patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to ensure continuity of care.
  6. Observe and document patient conditions, responses, and reactions, and recognize emergencies requiring immediate action.
  7. Administer medications, perform treatments, and participate in health promotion and patient education.
  8. Manage patient communications, including test results, appointment notifications, and follow-ups.
  9. Assist with specimen collection, processing, and transportation, maintaining proper protocols.
  10. Support inventory management of supplies and equipment.
  11. Provide coverage for other LPN duties as needed.
Additional Information
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Physical requirements: Some fitness, strength, and agility are required; details addressed during pre-employment physical.
