Job description

Perform various aspects of patient care within the assigned patient care unit under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Administer general nursing care to ambulatory patients in an assigned area under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  2. Participate with the Primary Nurse and Nursing Care Coordinator in planning and coordinating patient care.
  3. Follow the direction and guidance of the Primary Nurse in implementing the nursing process.
  4. Report and record results of nursing care and communicate significant information immediately to the Primary Nurse and/or Nursing Care Coordinator.
  5. Perform treatments and procedures as assigned by a Registered Nurse.
  6. Establish good interpersonal relations with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
  7. Possess knowledge of usual dosages, side effects, and reactions to medications, and be able to administer oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications, excluding experimental drugs.
  8. May administer narcotics orally or intramuscularly, except in pediatrics, newborn, and premature nurseries.
  9. Perform related duties as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
  • Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in New York State and/or Connecticut.
  • Minimum of 6 months outpatient experience; inpatient experience preferred.
  • Effective communication skills.
