The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides and documents individualized patient care to include patient evaluation, education, medication administration, IV therapy, treatments and patient safety as directed by the RN or provider.
Shift: Nights
The function of Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies (WPHWB) Women’s Triage Unit is based on the primary care model principles. As a Level III Perinatal Center, the Women’s Triage Unit provides the full spectrum of care for the obstetrical and gynecological patient. Tele-medicine is used for Psychiatry consults and Stroke Alert management. All non-trauma emergent obstetrical ambulance patients will be received in Triage. All trauma patients will be sent to the Emergency Department at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Triage is the receiving unit for all transfers from another hospital unless otherwise decided by the attending physician and the leadership team. All transfers must be generated through the Orlando Regional Transfer Center in consultation with the Perinatology team. The Women's Triage Unit provides comprehensive care for the Obstetrical (OB) and Gynecological (GYN) outpatients. This is defined as patients evaluated by a physician within the previous 24-hours and sent with an established treatment plan. If at any time, the patient must be evaluated by a physician, the patient will be transferred to the Women’s Triage Unit.

Essential Functions
• Demonstrates competency in advanced practical nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit specific requisite skills.
• Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the RN and other members of the healthcare team.
• Assists RN or provider during examinations and procedures.
• Documents patient data, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific guidelines
• Able to perform triage functions, including assessing the patient and determining next step in care, working in collaboration as directed by the department nursing team or provider(s).
• Appropriately administer oral and injectable medications or immunizations per LPN scope and as directed by a provider.
• Maintains a safe and caring environment for both patient and family.
• Assumes an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
• Participates in nursing PI activities as assigned.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned unit.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Education/Training
• Nursing School Graduate
• Successful completion of a 30-hour approved IV therapy course within 30 days of hire for inpatient/SNF only.
Licensure/Certification
• Current nursing license in the State of Florida renewed every two years.
• Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
Experience
At least one(1) year of experience as a LPN in LDRP, OB/GYN, Antepartum, Post-Partum units is preferred.
Education/Training
• Nursing School Graduate
• Successful completion of a 30-hour approved IV therapy course within 30 days of hire for inpatient/SNF only.
