Hours: 7:00pm - 7:30am

Every 3rd Weekend and Every Other Holiday Required

North 3A is a 39-bed medical telemetry and observation unit that specializes in the care of patients 18 years and older with a variety of medical diagnoses that include metabolic disorders, stable cardiovascular problems, renal patients, GI bleeds, substance abuse withdrawal, diabetes, infectious diseases, respiratory conditions, rule-out stroke/TIA, and uncomplicated appendectomies and cholecystectomies.

General Summary

Provides nursing care to patients at an advanced level of practice. Takes patient vital signs, assists with procedures/examinations, administers medications, assists patient with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, etc.) and instructs patients and their families in appropriate care.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Under appropriate supervision, administers and controls narcotics and medications.
  • Provides general nursing care and personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, changing bed linens and bed pans and positioning.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Helps patients get into and out of chairs, lifts patients, raises patients in beds, and turns the patients.
  • Checks patient's vital signs.
  • Charts results of various tests.
  • Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
  • Arranges for patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
  • Ensures accurate maintenance of patients' medical records and that patient records are treated as confidential information.
  • Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
  • Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.

Common Expectations:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
  • Prepares and maintains records of patient charges.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Certificate Program Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training Required

Work Experience:

  • 1 year Relevant experience. Required

Licenses:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse Upon Hire Required or
  • Licensed Practical Nurse Multi State License Upon Hire Required and
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:

  • Completion of accredited LPN program. Upon Hire Required and
  • Rhythm recognition course per unit of assignment. Upon Hire Required and
  • ACLS/PALS certification, as required. Upon Hire Required
