Job Description

Enables the physician to provide quality patient care, and assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of physician by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

1. Maintains patient flow during clinic hours.
2. Documents review of systems; measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height; updates past and current medical, social and family history; abstracts new procedures; reviews medications and updates medication list at each visit.
3. Correctly records patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
4. Participates with the registered nurse in the determination of nurse care needs based upon collection and interpretation of data relevant to the health status of a client.
5. Prepares patient charts in EMR for visits by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing to ensure all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records necessary for patient care are included.
6. Accesses and navigates websites or calls outside facilities to obtain necessary information.
7. Refills medications per MD's orders and pre-authorizes medications, including communicating with the patient, pharmacy, or insurance company.
8. Maintains pharmacy cabinet and records of patient samples.
9. Completes patient assistance paperwork/requests as needed.
10. Performs basic triage per specific office protocol procedures.
11. Returns calls and responds to MyChart as needed.
12. Works in-baskets, daily work flow logs, and work queues in EMR/Practice Management system.
13. Answers incoming calls, schedules appointments, checks-in and out patients, and completes pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries.
14. Operates EKG, cardiac monitors, and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests, as well as other clinical duties such as phlebotomy and cast removal, and injections of controlled substances that only a LPN or RN is licensed to administer.
15. Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
16. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
17. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients; maintains clean, fully supplied exam rooms and ensures proper infection control.
18. Orders medical supplies as needed and keeps an inventory of all clinical supplies.
19. Provides explanation and education to patients and may manage phone triage of patient concerns as applicable.
20. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Specialized knowledge or skills required to perform the position duties include:

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Practical nursing. Must currently be licensed in the State of Ohio.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years LPN experience required, physician office experience preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The LPN demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide culturally specific patient care and education; effectively communicates with peers; utilizes appropriate channels of communication; maintains confidentiality; demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth; and accepts and implements change.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, who holds a current license to practice nursing in their state. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. BLS certification required.
