Job summary

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center is seeking a licensed practical nurse for our Medical Surgical III team. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision, monitor conditions, administer medications, and assist with discharge planning in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.

The role offers a full-time day shift (36 hours/week) with opportunities for development, ongoing mentorship, and a strong culture of teamwork and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; graduate of accredited Practical Nursing program.
• Appropriate state LPN license required.
• CPI certification within 3 months for Behavioral Health, required.
• NC state curricula for restrictive interventions within 3 months of hire for ED/Behavioral Health units, required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Monitor patient conditions and report changes to the care team.
• Administer medications and treatments according to scope of practice.
• Support patient comfort, safety, and recovery goals.
• Assist with care coordination and discharge preparation.
• Document patient care accurately and timely.
• Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of accredited Practical Nursing Program
• Experience: One year of relevant experience, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Appropriate state LPN license, required.
  • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
  • CPI certification within 3 months of hire for Behavioral Health departments, required.
• Additional Skills (required):
  • Computer skills, Phone call etiquette and Organizational Skills
  • Ability to comprehend policies and procedures and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Behavioral Health units' requirements only
    • Ability to intervene in a therapeutic manner for behavior patterns demonstrated by patients with a mental illness, personality disorder, substance abuse or developmental disabilities.
    • Knowledge of psychiatric medications, side effects and treatment interventions, knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, mental health concepts, and evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments.CPI certification within three months.
    • Ability to establish and maintain control of violent patients, defend self and others against violent assaults, ability to react appropriately in psychiatric crises, ability use violent and non-violent restraints per policy and procedure.
